Custom Noise Protection
Loud noise can damage your hearing permanently, and the damage cannot be reversed. If you shoot, play music, ride a motorbike or work somewhere noisy, Claire can make hearing protection to fit you properly, so you can carry on doing what you do while looking after your hearing.
Noise protection appointments are available at The Lincoln Private Hospital clinic in Bailgate and at Claire’s home clinic. Home visits are also available, and Claire can do everything in a home visit that she can do in clinic. All appointments are by appointment only, Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6.30pm.

Why Custom Noise Protection?
Ear plugs from a shop are made to fit an average ear, which means they can be uncomfortable, fall out or leave gaps that let noise in. Custom noise protection is made from impressions taken of your own ears, so it fits snugly and comfortably and gives you a more reliable seal. Claire can also advise on the right level of protection for what you do, so you are not blocking out more sound than you need to.
Shooting
Gunshots are loud enough to cause hearing damage in a single moment, and repeated exposure adds up over the years. Custom shooting ear protection is designed for shooters, with some options including filters that let you hear conversation and your surroundings while blocking harmful noise from the shot. Claire will talk through the options with you so you can choose protection that suits the way you shoot.
Musicians
Musicians spend hours close to loud sound, and standard ear plugs can muffle and distort the music, making it hard to hear yourself and the people you play with. Musicians’ earplugs are designed to bring the overall volume down while keeping the quality of the sound, so music and speech still sound natural. They are suitable for performers, band members, DJs and anyone who spends time around loud music.
Motorbiking
Wind noise and engine noise on a bike build up quickly over a long ride, and helmets do little to block it. Motorcyclist earplugs reduce the harmful wind noise while still letting you hear conversation, horns and sirens, so you stay aware of what is going on around you. Custom plugs sit comfortably under a helmet, which matters on a long day in the saddle.
Noisy Workplaces
If you work around machinery, tools or other loud equipment, you are exposed to noise every working day. Under UK regulations, employers must make hearing protection available once average daily noise reaches 80 dB(A), and it becomes mandatory at 85 dB(A). Custom earplugs can be a more comfortable option for wearing day after day, and comfortable protection is far more likely to be worn consistently. Claire can advise you on what suits your workplace.
What Happens At Your Appointment
Your appointment begins with an examination of your ears, to check they are healthy and suitable for taking impressions. Claire will then take impressions of your ears. The impressions are used to make your custom noise protection, made specifically for you. Claire will discuss with you what you need protection for, so the right type is made.
